 Arrival by Air 
You can travel by Lao Aviation, Thai Airways International, Vietnam Airline, The Southern China Airline, Silk Air, Malaysian Airline and Regular flights are available to Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Chiang Mai, Kunming, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Laos has 2 international airports.

By river
To enter Laos via this border crossing, you take a ferry from Chiang Khong (20 baht, or U.S. 50 cents). First, in Chiang Khong, you must go to the customs window, which is right by the ferry, and get your departure stamp from Thailand. This is free. The ferries leave frequently throughout the day, basically whenever someone needs one. It is by longboat with a motor attached.  On the Laos side, you can get your Laos visa (up to 15 days--30 days visas take longer and cost more)
Arrival by crossing border
The country can be entered or exited overland at the following immigration checkpoints, which are open daily from 08.30 AM to 05.00 PM:
*  Friendship Bridge from / to Nongkhai  (Thailand) crossing Mekong River by shuttle bus *  Houei Xay by crossing Mekong River by ferry from / to Chiangkhong (Thailand) * Thakek from / to Nakhon Phanom (Thailand) by ferry
* Vangtao from / to Chongmek and Ubon Ratchatani (Thailand)
* Savannakhet from / to Mukdahan (Thailand)
* Sam Neua ( Nameo) / Pa Hang  on route  N0  6  to Vietnam 
*  Nonghet, Xiengkhouang Province, from / to Nam Kan (Vietnam)
*  Denesavanh from / to Lao Bao (Vietnam)
* Namphao, Borikhamxay province, from / to Lak Sao (Vietnam)
* Tong Kham /Chalo , route N0 12, which  link Thakek to Vinh or Dong Hoi (Vietnam)
* Attapeu/Kontum (Bo-Y border)
* Veunkham from / to Stung Treng (Cambodia) by boat
* Boten, Luang Namtha province, from / to Bohan and Mengla (Yunnan, China)
Arrival by Train
Although there is currently no rail connection to Laos yet, an extension of the Bangkok-Nong Khai railway is planned and a line from Vientiane to Nong Khai is scheduled to start operating in near future.
